COPAL, BLOOD OF THE TREES.
That is what the Aztecs called this resin incense. Copal, a fragrance common amongst the Mexican-American community, a fragrance that reverberates on both sides of the American-Mexican border. Communities in this region burn Copal in communal sweat lodges, also a must in private sessions with healers. We find this age-old tradition still being practiced, which can be attributed to the proven track record of this amazing resin incense.
The fragrant notes are quite crisp, one could also call it bright, sweet and mildly citrusy.
Like other natural resins incenses, Copal too has a host of benefits, a must for any healing ceremony. It is believed to clear blockages and enhance the energy field, uplifting and calming, alleviate stress, reduce anxiety and rejuvenate the aura.
Inception Bodhi sources Copal from the islands of Indonesia, hand processed hygienically and graded, we only get the best from this region, traditionally stored to preserve freshness and fragrance.

Additional
As rare and exotic as the language, the name is derived from, Copalli in Nahuatl(a group of the Uto-Aztecan language family) which means ‘incense.’ From there was coined the word Copal.
An Incense sacred to the Maya and Aztec civilisations, the Aztecs called it the blood of trees. Copal resin incense was used for religious and cultural rituals by these civilisations; so highly revered was Copal that the Mayans never touched the incense by hand and only burned it at altars.
The greatest artist ever known to man ‘mother nature’ uses Copal to create ‘frozen masterpieces of time.’ During the process of the Copal tree releasing sap, some insects and termites get encased in this translucent substance and are trapped in this transparent capsule of time. A true masterpiece of nature, reinforcing Inception Bodhi’s analogy of equating resin incense to semi-precious stones.
Harvested from the Protium Copal(Burseraceae) commonly known as the Copal tree, this tree initially was found around central America especially Mexico, now this tree is grown in other parts of the world too, like parts of Africa, Indonesia, India and other parts of the American continent.
This incense resin is extensively used during meditation and purification ceremonies, a truly humble resin incense, that helps generate positive energy, inspirational and up-lifting.
Backtrack
Resin based incense has a history of universal usage, across all ancient civilizations. Resin incense have documented usage as early as 601 BC, it was a very precious commodity back in the day. Trading in incense was flourishing and the route between Arabia to the Mediterranean was called the incense route.
A Glorious Day
A gift for a God - Frankincense
It took them just one appearance to create a lifetime impression. ‘The wise men from the East’ that was what they were called, the three magi could have been astrologers, scholars, teachers, religious leaders, or just priestly advisers, but were called kings. After following a bright star from the east, until it stopped, the star guided them to what they were looking for, a newborn baby. That day was called ‘Epiphany’. Upon finding the baby the magi knelt and offered baby Jesus the gifts they had carried with them, Gold, Myrrh and Frankincense. The relevance of these gifts is documented as: Gold, a gift for a king; Frankincense, a gift for a god; Myrrh, as to one who is mortal.
This was the most glorious day in resin incense history.
Incense and Ayurveda
Ayurveda meaning the ‘science of life,’ is a natural system of medicine practiced for more that 3000 years in the Indian subcontinent, Ayurveda finds use for resin incense in all forms, and they are known to cure a host of ailments.
The Asthanga Hriduya (the essence of eight sections of Ayurveda) is one of the primary root texts of Ayurveda. In chapter 2 of these texts there is special mention of resin incense, recommending burning Frankincense and Myrrh to cleanse the lungs.
Natural Resin Incense
Unlike other forms of incense, resin incense is the purest, the source. Resin incense formed by the hardened secretion of trees, are farmed, and collected using a method called ‘tapping.’ This method is most effective as it does not affect the wellbeing of the host tree. The secretion from these specific set of trees slowly hardens into raw incense resins, totally natural with no additives. In their natural form without any burning agents, they are dependent on external burning agents to produce fragrant smoke.
Incense resins can be used for a variety of healing, meditative and religious activities, they have an unending host of benefits on oneself and the surrounding.
